Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is taking its signature sensational striptease online for the first time with Broadway Bares: Zoom In, a celebratory virtual edition streaming on Saturday, August 1, 2020.

The free and frisky stream of Broadway Bares, which is produced by and benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, begins at 9:30 pm Eastern. It can be watched at broadwaycares.org/bares, on Broadway Cares’ YouTube channel, broadwaybares.com and on streaming media partners BroadwayWorld.com, iHeartRadioBroadway.com, Playbill.com, TheaterMania.com and the Pride Media family of sites including Advocate.com and Out.com.

Although this year’s in-person 30th anniversary celebration, originally set for June 21, was postponed until 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual evening will live on digitally through streamed sizzling striptease featuring NYC’s hottest dancers. The online event will celebrate Broadway Bares with new performances that make social distancing sexy, plus favorite numbers from years past and new appearances by special celebrity guests. The special guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We’re so excited to bring the heat of Broadway Bares to screens around the world for the first time with Broadway Bares: Zoom In,” Bares creator and Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell said. “This year’s performers have gone full-out in both their show-stopping dance moves and desire to make a difference. You’ve got to Zoom In because it’s sure to make your laptop tingle and your cell phone vibrate!”

Though the stream is free, donations are welcome. Every dollar donated will help those across the country affected by HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and other critical illnesses receive healthy meals, lifesaving medication, emergency financial assistance, housing, counseling and more. The donations also support and champion organizations focused on social justice and anti-racism.

Broadway Bares was created in 1992 by Mitchell, then a Broadway dancer, as a way to raise awareness and money for those living with HIV/AIDS. In Broadway Bares’ first year, Mitchell and six of his friends danced on a New York City bar and raised $8,000.

Last year, Broadway Bares took stars and fans alike on a romp around the world at Broadway Bares: Take Off . The tantalizing twist on travel raised a record-breaking $2,006,192. The 29 editions of Broadway Bares have raised more than $21.2 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

BC/EFA’s BROADWAY BACKWARDS Set for March 16, 2020 at the New Amsterdam Theatre

Broadway’s biggest stars and beloved legends will share LGBTQ twists on classic and modern favorites when Broadway Backwards returns on Monday, March 16.

Tickets go on sale today for this one-night-only event produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and benefiting Broadway Cares and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City.

The evening features artists singing the great songs of musical theatre. Broadway Backwards is a show where gender doesn’t matter but love does.

The 15th edition of Broadway Backwards (#broadwaybackwards) will be performed at 8 pm at Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre (214 West 42nd Street, NYC), currently home to Disney’s long-running hit Aladdin.

VIP tickets include premium seats and a special post-show cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception with the cast. A limited number of “Backstage & Beyond” ticket packages also are available, which include the opportunity to see the dress rehearsal, exclusive backstage access, a meet-and-greet with some of the stars of Broadway Backwards, premium seats for the show and more.

This year’s special guest performers will be announced in the coming weeks. Creator Robert Bartley will return to direct and choreograph the show. He will be joined by Mary-Mitchell Campbell as music supervisor, James Kinney as choreographer and Joshua Buscher-West as choreographer and associate director.

Last year’s exciting and empowering edition raised a record $704,491. The 130-person cast featured a bevy of Broadway stars, including Jenn Colella, Gavin Creel, Darren Criss, Ariana DeBose, Andrew Rannells and Kathleen Turner, backed by a live, 12-piece orchestra.

What began as a small, grassroots concert performed at The Center in 2006 quickly grew into a highly anticipated event presented in Broadway’s best theatres. In its 14 editions, Broadway Backwards has raised more than $4.8 million for Broadway Cares and The Center.
